Phyllis Nofts
Actor
Year you started living or working on Orange County: Over 40 years
Neighborhood: I lived and was a homeowner in West Fullerton from 1968-2001.
Hometown: Randoph, MA
What inspires you as an artist?
The fact that there are still productions (that I've been fortunate enough to be part of) with a divinely professional, talented and kind cast. Our cast of 6 women were so wonderful to work with - it was a pleasure to be part of a successful production with no divas.
Who are or were your theatrical heroes?
I've always admired Carol Burnett for her talent, kindness and willingness to allow other cast members to have their moment.
What kind of theatre excites you?
When I see a production that I don't "watch" but am completely engaged - that excites me. I'm also a huge Neil Simon fan and I do love musicals.
What’s the craziest thing you have ever needed to do for theatre?
As a Stage Manager, I had to stop a show so paramedics could assist someone in the house who was having a seizure.
Outside of a theatre, what’s your favorite hot spot in Orange County?
LOL - It's not a "hot spot", but I've been going to Rutabegorz Restaurant (the original on Pomona in Fullerton) since 1973, I also LOVE Seasons 52 (South Coast Plaza). Guess the it's pretty obvious that I'm a foodie!!! :-)
What surprises you the most about your role in the theatre community?
I'm always taken by surprise and very humbled when I'm recognized in the community or at auditions from my participation in past shows.
What advice do you have for theatre artists just starting out in Orange County?
Audition - Audition - Audition!!! Auditioning is a skill all by itself. You never know what the director is looking for and/or who will be your competition. Most importantly, don't EVER take it personally when you're not cast. There are numerous reasons why an actor isn't cast - talent is typically not the reason.
