Rose London

Theatre Artist

Time in Greater OC: Most of my life!

Neighborhood: Long Beach

Hometown: Northern California

What are you currently working on?

I am currently doing a zoom reading of a new play called, Momma's Little Monsters by Chance Vernon. I will be beginning an in-person play soon at the Maverick Theater.

What's been inspiring you recently?

The hope that live theater is soon opening!

Tell us a story from your childhood that illuminates who you are as an artist.

I used to memorize poetry and perform it for my parents and their friends.

Who are or were your theatrical heroes?

Currently, Mindy Kaling! I recently read her book, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" and I was inspired! She gave good advice; if you can't find a good role, write one for yourself! Never give up!

What kind of theatre excites you?

All kinds of live theater! I personally prefer to do plays with heightened language like the Greek tragedies and Shakespeare.

What's the craziest thing you have ever needed to do for theatre?

I played Othello!

Outside of a theatre, what's your favorite hot spot in Orange County?

My son and daughter-in-law's house where my favorite humans live, especially my grandson, Finley!

What surprises you the most about your role in the theatre community?

It surprises me that I am more and more drawn to directing; I like it. Also, it's getting harder to find good challenging roles the older I get, sadly.

What advice do you have for theatre artists just starting out in Orange County?

Never give up! If you want to work at a theater, keep auditioning. Make them so tired of seeing you that they'll cast you!

Go ahead, promote your things...

Come and see me at the Maverick Theatre in the Crucible this summer!
