September Is Here: Make Room for Local Theatre

As summer begins to wind down and autumn starts to peek around the corner, it’s a great time to make a little room in your calendar for something that never goes out of season: live theatre! 

September brings an incredible variety of productions to stages throughout Orange County—from beloved literary classics and sweeping musicals to outrageous comedies, dark dramas, and brand-new works. And with October productions already beginning to appear on the horizon, there’s plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead.

This month, you can step into Narnia with Alchemy Theatre Company, travel around the world with Cabrillo Playhouse, unravel the madness of The Crucible with Curtis Theatre and The Larking House, or laugh your way through A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at Westminster Community Playhouse.

You can also catch Hunchback of Notre Dame at Newport Theatre Arts Center, LAGUNATICS: Farce Be With You at No Square Theatre, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at Camino Real Playhouse, The Bed Trick at Chance Theater, Into the Woods at South Coast Repertory, Criers for Hire at Curtis Theatre, Sweeney Todd at The GEM Theatre, and Once Upon a Mattress at Whittier Community Theatre.

Whether you're looking for a night out with friends, a date-night destination, a family adventure, or simply an excuse to discover a theatre you haven't visited before, there's a seat waiting for you somewhere in Orange County.

About this post, and how to participate:

• A new Program Insert is posted by the first Monday of each month.

• Participating organizations must print and include the most current Program Insert inside their selected show programs

• All organizations are limited to promoting a maximum of two of their shows that have performances during the current month. It is to their discretion which shows are included in the insert.

• If an organization does not have a show running during the current month, then they may promote one upcoming show.

• Producers must understand that failure to include Program Inserts in their selected show programs may disqualify their organization from participating in the future.

• Participating organizations must be a current OC Theatre Guild Organizational Member in good standing.
